Little Things

Today’s post is written by our Brave Artist Mariah Neilson

I get so caught up in my to-do lists and big dreams for the future that I forget to be thankful for the little things. I forget to stop and notice things. So these pictures are of the little things I stopped and noticed this week.

I adore Gerber Daisies. When I get flowers I am so quick to cut the stems and put them in a vase, that I forget to admire their beauty and color.

A cloudy morning. Usually when it is cloudy, I moan and groan as I pull my self away from my warm comfy bed. But it was totally worth it when I saw the beautiful sky.

This is Sugarbear. The older she gets the more her cheeks droop, her once black coat is now salted with white hair. She truly is one of the best dogs in the world. With her getting older, I have realized I need to slow down and enjoy each moment with her.

Dandelions amaze me. When you look closely, each little piece is unique and different. Each piece can separate itself and go in a different direction.

There are millions of grains of sand. Each one accounted for in God’s eyes. I am in awe of how detailed God is. He specializes in the little things.

Can you tell I like flowers? And nature? As I have gotten busier with school and work and life, I stopped looking for the things that brought me joy. I stopped searching for God in the little things. That is when day to day tasks became burdensome. Life became exhausting.

This is Dapper. He is my Dappled Dachshund. There are many joyous little quirks about him. From the way he only runs on three legs, to the big slobbery kisses he gives if you let him get close enough. He never ceases to be bring joy. Even with dirt on his nose. There are little things every where. They catch your eye and make you smile, or tug on a heart sting. Life is made up of the little things.

So! I have a task for you! Look for the little things that bring you joy. Maybe its a flower or a hug from someone dear. Write it down or take a picture for when life gets busy and the little things get pushed a side.

THEN—–Share it with us!

All pictures were taken and edited by Mariah Neilson through Treasured Hope Photography.

  1. Great reminder, and love your pix! Was the yellow flower a Celadine Poppy? I have them on my sloping back yard (down to the river) and absolutely love them.
