Breaking Free

Who do you say I am

And why do your words describe me

I pick them up as if they are true

And then I let them define me

I live as if your words are right

I’ve lost who I am, I’ve lost my sight

Sight of who I am to be

I’ve given up the right, the right to be me

But today I am breaking free!

I strive for perfection

As if there is no other direction

I hear the lies that come through my head

I believe they are true I believe what’s been said

Thoughts of unworthiness flow through my soul

It breads insecurity and many of woes

Where have I gone and why did I leave

Deep down I know it’s the truth I need to believe

Today I am breaking free!

Funny thing is it’s the lies I believed

Not the complements you bestowed upon me

Only my shortcomings only my faults

I danced with them as if I was dancing a waltz

The lies that I’ve lived I will live no more

It’s time I kicked them out and shut the door

Life is too short to not be who I am

For it is through His love I can rise, I can stand

So today I am breaking free!

I choose not to live under darkness or despair

No longer will I look at my life with others and compare

There is a richness in me that He has placed since birth

It is now time to stand and embrace my self-worth

If I don’t believe in whom He has made me to be

I can I show others how to be free

Yes today I am breaking free

Dear one, today is your day to break free!
