Show Me How BIG Your Brave Is.

Day #2

How did you all do yesterday?

I was so blessed to read all of your comments, receive your notes, and hear you declare:

“I want to Live Brave, Not Broken.”

There were many of you who shared, “I am not sure if I can do this.”

I get it,  believe me, and for the most part you are right.

“YOU” can’t do it. Not by yourself. You weren’t  meant to “live brave” solo. You were meant to walk this brave journey with others, and with God.  Community.  The Body of Christ.  Family.

With others and with God… “YOU” can do it.

One day at a time.

So where do we begin this journey of Living Brave?

I think first we must define the two words; Brave and Broken.

Brave – (adj) ready to face and endure pain; showing courage  (verb) to face an unpleasant conditions without showing fear.   Other words for brave –  endure, withstand, confront, defy, courageous, valiant, valorous, heroic, lionhearted, bold, fearless, gallant, daring, unflinching, unshrinking, unafraid, gutsy, spunky, warrior, soldier, fighter.

Broken – having been fractured or damaged and no longer in one piece or in working order,  having breaks or gaps in continuity, disrupted or divided.  Other words for broken – shattered, fragmented, splintered, crushed, snapped; in bits, in pieces; destroyed, disintegrated; split; damaged, out of order, violated, infringed, contravened, disregarded, ignored

What about those words stand out to you?  Are  there any places in those two words where they both collide with one another?  Is your brave, directly connected to a broken place?   If yes, and for most of us it will be a yes, then you have just found  your starting point.

Take some time today, to really reflect on that.  Those words.  The colliding of Brave and Broken. And then allow God to minister to you through it.  Ask him…

“What do you say about this, Lord?”

Don’t ask anyone else.  Only ask HIM.  And then WAIT for his answer.  He will answer you.

As for my day,

One down, thirty nine more to go.

I was a little nervous.  Honestly.

The broken place for me in this season of living brave collided when I trusted the medical community to take care of me early on  in my cancer treatment,  and I ended up  bedridden from chemo, being severely neutropenic  and the icing on the cake was getting  an undiagnosed form of sepsis, and  then landing  in the hospital for two weeks.

I have spent the past 3 months taking control of my health and getting myself to a position where I am  in an even better place now than where  I was when I was  first diagnosed with cancer back in November 2012.

So when they  (new doctors) told me that I could no longer wait to move on with my next course of treatment, the anxiousness crept in.  My trust with them had been disrupted and broken.  And yet, I know that God  IS with  me in this next step of treatment.  So for me, to LIVE BRAVE is to

1.  Regain my trust in the medical community

2. Relentlessly “trust” in God that no matter what, he is with me, right along side me.

3.  I hear him, therefore I am safe and secure.

4. To confront a fear that is NOT from God.

I made it  through day #1.

Live Brave Question #2 –  Where does your Brave and Broken collide?  You can post your answers in the comments below,  or on our facebook page.    Who knows, I just bet, your story just might encourage someone else.

I will leave you with a fun music video from Sara Bareilles, “Brave”  It is sure to make you smile.

And if you are inclined…Show Us How Big Your Brave Is.

I will show you mine on Wednesday.

  1. WOW – those definitions. My mind is spinning – I will definitely be doing some journaling tonight! Thank you for nudging me along on this journey. Now I will take hold of God’s hand and follow.

  2. 2. Relentlessly “trust” in God that no matter what, he is with me, right along side me. << Thats my take out from your post. I think I trust. Do I relentlessly trust? No. I need to. Thanks

    1. Relentless – persistent, continuing, constant, continual, continuous, nonstop, never-ending, unabating, interminable, incessant, unceasing, endless, unending, unremitting, unrelenting, unrelieved; unfaltering, unflagging, untiring, unwavering, dogged, tenacious, single-minded, tireless, indefatigable

      Yep, its a meaty word.
